Moodle is a very effective example of a Course Management System (CMS). It is a web based tool that we can use to create a digital learning environment. We store it on our servers and retain maximum control. It is secure and easy to manage. You can easily handout documents, turn in assignments, create forums, have a chat with your students and just manage many of the aspects of a digital learning environment.
Moodle can easily complement what you are doing in your classroom while also enabling opportunities for learning to continue when students leave your physical classroom. Moodle even has a grading system so that you can easily provide feedback, other than just a score, to students. If used properly, Moodle can greatly enhance the learning environment and make things easier for both teachers and students.
