I have a series of videos that goes over the top equations that I use with Google Sheets but there are many ways you can combine those equations to do even more fun things with data. Included in those videos was one about the Filter equation which allows you to easily filter out the rows of data that you want based on one or more criteria. When you are looking at student data, you can filter out by course, grade level, semester grade, or any value in the data set.
Combine the Filter equation with some other equations and you can create an easy way to quickly look over a large data set. Use the Unique function to pull out all of the unique values in a column, then combine that with a Drop Down to create a quick way to select a value to filter the data set. You can even use the Filter equation with a Transpose function to make it easier to see data when there are multiple rows that fit the Filter equation for a single value.
Look over the two videos to see the different ways you can combine the Filter equation with other equations to make quick work of analyzing student data. You can use my example sheet of data to play with the equations yourself as you watch the video.
