Using video to give directions or to explain something can be really useful in a classroom. However, you may not always have the bandwidth or time to deal with a video, especially if you only want a small clip of that full video. The Google Chrome extension MakeGIF can convert a section of a YouTube clip into an animated GIF. You can then download or embed that GIF onto a site to share out with others. This can be really useful to show some quick steps or to show part of a video without a lot of bandwidth needed. All you need to do is download the extension into Chrome and then find the YouTube video you want to convert into a GIF.
