Google is constantly listening to teachers and updating Classroom to better meet the needs of many. You do have to remember that this is a free and lightweight service so you should not be expecting full LMS features but this is a great tool to use to help organize and streamline many things. It is still a great tool for distributing resources and assignments as well as carrying out conversations.
Google created a blog post to describe the updates at http://googleforeducation.blogspot.com/2014/10/improving-google-classroom-for-students.html.
The updates include;
1. Invite students using Google Groups
2. Mark assignments as done (student end)
3. Commenting Controls
4. Export All grades
5. Sort students by last name or first name
